In a culture dominated by mass digital media what importance does live performance hold in the modern age? Additionally, does the concept of live performance even exist? Or, as claimed by Philip Auslander's theory of Liveness, is it just a re-creation of digital entities?
I aim to answer this and dissect the theorhetical components of Liveness by dissecting a side-by-side comparison of English rocker Yungblud's 2019 live concert versus his 2018 concert album.
Napster v. The Teen Pop Bubble v. The Industry: A ‘Single’-Handed Defeat
By analyzing the rise and fall of Napster in compilation with the Teen Pop Bubble of the 90s, and the modern day super smash single "Old Town Road" by Lil Nas X, I argue the legally-enforced removal of the digital music-sharing giant was a move of self-sabotage. A move in which the music industry is still attempting to recover from in an ever-growing culture of digital music.
